This Statement of Faith represents the beliefs of the co-founders of Check My Church, Joe and Sarah Young. They do not necessarily represent everyone or anyone who works with or supports Check My Church, nor is it required that anyone who works with us hold these same beliefs.
For other doctrinal topics, please read our positions regarding secondary, tertiary, and other non-essential doctrines at the end of the statement.
God
There is one God, the creator of the universe, who is eternal and exists in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He is perfect and holy, infinite, self-existent, self-sufficient, all-powerful, ever-present, and all-knowing. God is absolute truth. He is righteous, just, merciful, gracious, and loving.
God is the only being worthy of our worship. He is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.
Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God the Father and the Word of God made flesh (John 1). He lived a sinless life, performed many miracles, and atoned for the sins of the entire world by the shedding of His blood on the cross.
Christ was resurrected bodily on the third day. He ascended to the right hand of the Father, has conquered death and sin, and He is our Lord and the Savior of the world. He is God, and no one can be saved by any other means except through Jesus Christ.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit dwells within and regenerates every Christian believer. By the power of the Holy Spirit, the Christian is gifted and enabled to abide in Christ, be the workmanship of God, and be conformed to the will of God by the renewing of their mind. By the Holy Spirit, we are made new creations in Christ. As the Apostle Paul said in Galatians 2:20, "I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me..."
Salvation
The human race is sinful and rebellious toward God and His holiness. In God's perfect justice and mercy, He saved the world through His Son, Jesus Christ. Through the perfect and finished work of Christ on the cross, all who believe in Christ are reconciled to Him. It is not by our own works that we are saved from eternal separation from God, but by the grace of God and our faith in Him alone.
The Bible
The Bible is the inspired and authoritative word of God. It is infallible in its original manuscripts. It is the only writing within Christianity considered to be Scripture, and it is "profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness."
The Church
All believers in Christ are members of the Body of Christ, or the universal Church. We are all a part of the Christian Church simply by our belief. Believers can edify themselves and grow in their faith and knowledge by gathering with other believers in fellowship, to worship God, study the Bible, and encourage one another in truth and love.
A Note About Non-Essentials
Check My Church, as a ministry, does not attempt to, and will not engage in debates or arguments regarding secondary, tertiary, or other doctrines within Christianity, except as it relates to abuse, corruption, and cultic control within Christian churches and ministries.
Many of our articles address issues regarding conventional Christian ecclesiology regularly, such as tithing and church discipline, as it is the position of CMC that certain practices within local churches and ministries are expressions of corruption, idolatry, narcissistic coercive control, legalism, anti-Christ and anti-Gospel false teaching, and spiritual abuse.
The aim of Check My Church is to inform individual Christians about their local churches, ministries, and ministry leaders to better equip, inform, and protect them in their search for a safe church or other gathering of fellow believers.
